As far back as I can remember I've been drawing. As a child my drawings reflected the simple narratives of a boy's fantasy life; as a youngster a fascination with cars and planes; as a teenager fantastic, obsessive landscapes and copies; as a young adult first a quest for perfection, then a move towards gesture drawings; as a student at UVic large drawings where sometimes streaks of blood mingled with the graphite and charcoal from attacking the paper. Drawing is, and always has been, the touchstone of my art making.
Collage and mixed media also provided an outlet for a number of years. The interactions/intersections of textures, narratives and resolutions fascinates me. I've produced works large and small, 2D and 3D. Along with drawing this melding of materials provides me with the most physical and direct means of expression.
Over the years I've worked in a variety of other media: painting (including probably my most recognized work as a graffiti artist, which led to....), street performance and its video documentation; sculpture, mostly done as a student; and a collection of innovative screenprinted T-shirts.
I've also done a number of set designs for theatre. I was the recipient of a Theatre BC award for best set design in the South Vancouver Island Zone competiton in 1999 with a simple, effective set design for Mere Mortals, a Pender Island Solstice Theatre production.
Much of the documentation of these works is in the form of slides and will be added to this website in the near future.
