Luxia Mod
digital sketch - 2010

The piece that started the line of exploration.

I had been thinking of the concept of using photographic imagery to create 3D pieces and started by taking an image of a phone box I photographed in Madrid, Spain and turned it on its side to create a believable space to work in.

I then started adding pieces in PhotoShop to achieve an ambience. As part of the process I wanted the photographer(s) to be in the piece.

I've laid this out to be about 60 cm. wide. When constructed the front will have a sheet of plexiglass with a 'reflected' image of myself taking a photo (you can see this in the lower right corner). It could be about photographic perception and/or what we value and/or whatever you see in it.

This concept led to the piece below: Stage 1, which also incorporates the photographer.

Newest Manipulated, Processed Digital Photo Graphics

My latest work exploring processes for creating new photo graphics. Much of it is experimental. Many are 'sketches' or maquettes for future work.

All of these pieces I've created in my room at Miss Loi's guesthouse in Saigon. I don't have my full image library with me so am restricted to what I brought along or take while here.

I'm currently using a lot of foam core, both white and black cored. And learning how to cut it :o)

My main interest is breaking away from photography's 2 dimensional plane. Some of the pieces are constructed along the lines of theatre set design maquettes, or aquariums, or other artificial spaces. Some are literally 3 layers: 3 dimensions. The processing/manipulation of images in PhotoShop varies from extreme, with many layers, to fairly straght forward collaging of a few images. I've lots of ideas which I'm working through and am working out systems to realize them.

This page is currently not linked to from my web site - it's not for public viewing. I've put these images up to share with a few people and am keeping my work fairly close until I've fully developed some pieces. However, I would sincerely appreciate any feedback from those of you I've sent a link to this page.

Thanks!
